When are you open?
We are open Monday through Friday from 10am-11pm and Saturday / Sunday from 12pm-8pm. If you would like to meet with us any other time please contact us to make an appointment.
How much does it cost?
We have many pricing options but a daily pass costs $15 or $13 for students. For more information on pricing click here.
Do I need a strong upper body to climb?
Rock climbing well requires many things. Upper body strength is a small part of what is needed. Climbing also requires strong legs, flexibility, a good attitude and knowledge of technique. Not having a strong upper body will not prevent you from climbing well and you will begin to see improvements rapidly.
How old do I need to be to climb?
Kids as young as two have climbed our walls. Climbers need to weigh at least 30lbs to fit into a harness properly. We begin to teach climbers how to belay (technique used to hold the rope for another climber) at age 12. We offer climbing teams and camps for climbers ages five and up.
Is climbing a good workout?
Climbing is one of the best workouts around. You will build strength and flexibility while burning calories. You are only pulling and pushing your own body weight making strength gains natural and healthy. It’s easy to motivate because it is so much fun.
Do you teach classes?
We teach beginning and advanced climbing classes at Vertical Relief and at local climbing areas. We offer courses covering specific topics and private instruction based on individual needs. Ask for a course catalog.
Do I need to come to Vertical Relief with someone else or can I visit by myself?
Climbing is a partner oriented activity and visiting with a friend is a good idea. If you are just starting try taking a Ropemaster I course and you will be climbing with an instructor for two hours during your first visit. We also introduce many people to each other. You most likely would be able to meet someone to climb with.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that does not inhibit movement. Tights, sweats, long shorts (fit better under a harness), tee shirts, sports bras all work great.
I don’t own my own climbing gear, do you supply it?
You may rent gear from us on a daily and monthly basis. Some classes include gear rentals. We also offer a well stocked shop and experienced climbing staff to help with your purchase.
How often do you change you routes?
We try to set every weekend. Our goal is to keep 40 to 50 routes up on the top-rope and lead climb areas while setting at least 15 new routes a month. Routes usually have a life expectancy of about 3 months. The bouldering cave is completely stripped and reset about once every 2 months. When a route is stripped all climbing holds are run through a dishwasher before being used again.
Is climbing dangerous?
Yes. It would not be climbing if it wasn’t. We pride ourselves in our quality instructional programs and industry leading operations but climbers may make mistakes. Ultimately, your safety is your responsibility.
